Job Summary
Conduct daily care for children, including feeding, social-emotional support, and supervision of assigned sites while exhibiting safe, developmentally appropriate practices. Plan and implement age-appropriate classroom activities covering literacy, health living, STEM, and physical education. Observe children, document progress, and maintain required program documentation such as attendance and meal counts. Communicate effectively with parents, co-workers, and administration to maintain positive relationships and ensure regulatory compliance. Ensure facilities remain clean, well-maintained, and hazard-free. Work 50% of program hours, with flexibility to cover 5 mornings, 5 afternoons, or both to ensure continuity of care.
Required Qualifications
- At least 20 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent recognized by DOE
- Successful completion of at least 12 college or university credits from a regionally accredited college or university in recreation, elementary education, school-age care, or school-age administration
- Six months experience working with children kindergarten through sixth grade in a group
- OR
- Successful completion of at least 6 college or university credits from a regionally accredited college or university in recreation, elementary education, school-age care, or school-age administration
- The school-age bundle offered by the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood
- OR
- Twelve months experience working with children kindergarten through sixth grade in a group
- The school-age bundle offered by the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood
- Complete a physical & tuberculosis screening and provide a physician's documentation of both within 30 days of hire
- Successful completion of a comprehensive criminal history, child abuse & adult abuse background check as required by the State of Delaware
- Proficient active listening skills to understand and adapt to the various needs of children and parents
- Patience and compassion suitable for working with young children
- Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy development
- Ability to exercise control and maintain classroom discipline
- Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children and staff
- Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children alone in a classroom
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community

- Prior experience working with youth in a group setting

- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops

- Knowledge of early childhood /school age education programs and techniques
- Knowledge of child development theory and practice
- Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities
- Preference will be given to candidates who can work either 5 mornings, 5 afternoons or both to ensure continuity of care for our students
