Job Summary
Conduct daily care for children in before/after care programs, including feeding, social/emotional support, and safe, developmentally appropriate supervision. Lead classroom activities covering literacy, health living, STEM, and gross motor skills while implementing positive behavior management. Observe child progress, document attendance and meal counts, and maintain facility safety and equipment standards. Communicate regularly with parents, co-workers, and branch administration to build relationships and ensure regulatory compliance. Complete required trainings, emergency drills, and program documentation. Work 50% of operating hours, with preference for morning, afternoon, or full-day shifts to ensure continuity of care.
Required Qualifications
- At least 20 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent recognized by DOE
- Successful completion of at least 12 college or university credits from a regionally accredited college or university in recreation, elementary education, school-age care, or school-age administration
- Six months experience working with children kindergarten through sixth grade in a group
- Successful completion of a physical & tuberculosis screening
- Physician's documentation of physical & tuberculosis screening within 30 days of hire
- Successful completion of a comprehensive criminal history, child abuse & adult abuse background check
- Proficient active listening skills to understand and adapt to the various needs of children and parents
- Patience and compassion suitable for working with young children
- Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy development
- Ability to exercise control and maintain classroom discipline
- Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children and staff
- Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children alone in a classroom
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
- Preference will be given to candidates who can work either 5 mornings, 5 afternoons or both to ensure continuity of care for our students
