Job Summary
Site Assistant for the School Age Child Care program supports the Site Coordinator in planning and delivering a variety of activities (arts & crafts, music and drama, games, sports, science activities, quiet time, homework, and Discovery Learning Centers) while ensuring compliance with NYS OCFS licensing requirements, safety, and positive youth development. The role involves welcoming children and families, promoting program events, preparing lesson plans, following program guidelines, maintaining a clean and organized site, providing nutritious snacks, completing accident reports, coordinating with staff and parents, and participating in required trainings and certifications (OCFS screenings, fingerprinting, TB testing, CPR/AED/First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communication, and New Employee Orientation) within specified timelines. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, the ability to work 16+ years of age, strong organizational and communication skills, age-appropriate activity knowledge for ages 5-12, and a commitment to YMCA values and mission.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- substantial experience working with children under 13 years of age
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Excellent organizational and communications skills
- Bring maturity and responsibility
- Knowledge of age-appropriate activities for ages 5 to 12
- Prior to assignment: complete medical statement and tuberculin test
- Fingerprinting and background screening per NYS OCFS within 30 days
- SCR and SCL clearance
- Must complete Bloodborne Pathogens, Employee Safety and Youth Protection trainings prior to initial assignment
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (or complete within 30 days)
- Hazard Communication training within 90 days
- New Employee Orientation and required trainings within 90 days
