Job Summary

Conduct accurate insurance verification, pre-authorization, and scheduling for scheduled and non-scheduled patients across all Kootenai Health locations. Perform patient registration, point-of-service collections, and financial clearance using Epic modules, while communicating network benefits and out-of-pocket costs to patients prior to service. Obtain and validate referral information, including physician orders and demographic data, and secure full reimbursement by meeting payor pre-authorization requirements. Assist in denials reduction by reviewing registration and authorization claims, and educate patients on insurance limitations, payment plans, or Medicaid linkage options. Provide courteous service to patients and medical staff, ensuring complete and legal documentation of all scheduling and financial clearance activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 months prior customer service experience
  • 2 years' experience working in a hospital, medical office, or health insurance setting
  • familiarity with third party government program or commercial insurance
  • MOAB Certification during Kootenai Health Essentials
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 lbs
  • Must be able to kneel, stoop, crouch, or bend
  • Must be able to reach arms above or below shoulder height
  • Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
  • Must be able to move or traverse with/without accommodation
  • Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
  • Must be able to communicate and exchange accurate information

Desired Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelors' degree in Business Management or closely related field
  • experience working in a hospital, medical office, or health insurance setting
  • specifically registration and insurance verification
  • Previous Epic or other hospital scheduling/registration and clinical software experience
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCs codes
  • Medical Terminology certificate
  • Surgical, diagnostic, and/or office visit scheduling, patient accounts, and/or practice assistant experience
  • Previous Epic software experience in Radiant, Cupid, Cadence, ADT, and/or other Epic modules
  • Strong customer service skills
  • patients/customer centered focus in positive manner in all situations
  • Excellent communication skills (telephone, written, inter-personal and customer-relation)
