Job Summary
The Scheduler and Authorization Specialist performs a variety of patient registration, scheduling, and insurance verification duties, managing patient inquiries and scheduling appointments with a focus on customer service. Key responsibilities include verifying patient insurance eligibility, obtaining pre-authorizations, processing insurance authorizations, and documenting communications with providers. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment, and proficiency in medical terminology and computer software. Physical demands include the ability to sit for long periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and effective communication with patients.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1 – 2 years of medical office experience is preferred
- Above average spelling and typing skills needed
- Strong Interpersonal Skills - Ability to develop relationships and collaborate and influence in a decentralized organization
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent time management, organization, and administrative support skills
- Must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in the English language
Desired Qualifications
- Proficient knowledge in medical terminology
- Proficient computer software (Online insurance websites and DASH) and database skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products
- Experience collaborating across multiple functions
- Experience innovating in a fast-growing work environment and dealing with ambiguity
