Job Summary
Monitor live communication and perform immediate verbal summaries of lawfully intercepted foreign language communications. Transcribe audio/video and written materials to English, then validate accuracy through quality control reviews of original work. Provide reliable gist summaries to law enforcement officers and attend Title III minimization briefings before new investigations. Assist in preparing evidence and investigation summaries for potential federal or state trials, serving as a fact witness when subpoenaed. Maintain regular communication with the program manager regarding available hours and shifts.
Required Qualifications
- 18 years old or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident with legal work status
- Minimum of one (1) year of translation experience in the required language
- Demonstrated proficiency in English and the target language as demonstrated through testing
- Testing for language proficiency in target native language and English occurred no more than five years prior to commencing work
- Certified or the ability to become certified in listening, speaking, reading, and writing language proficiency in target native language and English
- Native fluency in language(s) other than English
- Excellent command of English with the ability to produce clear and concise written translations, transcriptions, and summaries
- Proficient in Microsoft office applications and ability to learn to use new software
- Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute (WPM)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance
- Flexibility to support assignments on short notice
- Availability for multiple shifts to include weekends
- Ability to work well under pressure to meet specific deadlines
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with specific Intercept Systems is a plus: Jatom Systems Incorporated (JSI) VoiceBox Intercept System
- Familiarity with specific Intercept Systems is a plus: Pen-Link Lincoln Intercept System
- Strong oral communication skills to effectively communicate with law enforcement officials of varying backgrounds
- Ability to understand slang and colloquial expressions in your native language, and the ability to translate these into English while still conveying the original meaning and context
- Experience as a linguist in support of defense, intelligence, or law enforcement agencies
- Federal law enforcement clearance
