Job Summary
SC2 Street Outreach Navigator (SON) within BUILD's SC2 team conducts street interventions focused on at-risk or gang-involved youth, establishing rapport with schools, police, community partners, and criminal-justice institutions to link youth to services. Responsibilities include coordinating outreach services, responding to violence through outreach and canvassing, compiling reports for compliance, cross-training staff, informing the BUILD team of progress and challenges, weekly case discussions, trauma-informed engagement, conflict resolution and mediating disputes, promoting restorative justice as an alternative to disciplinary action, youth-driven goal setting and service planning, documenting case notes and intake assessments, submitting monthly statistics, maintaining file compliance, identifying influential adults to bolster support networks, representing the agency to communities, and participating in outreach and recruitment events—including evenings and weekends. Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED (Bachelor’s preferred), minimum three years’ experience with inner-city youth, strong communication skills, ability to utilize technology in program operations, ability to build positive relationships, ability to complete home visits, pass background checks, valid driver’s license and local travel willingness, and flexibility in scheduling, plus vaccination status per organizational policy.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Services, Human Services, Non-Profit, or related field experience preferred
- Minimum three years’ experience working with inner-city youth in a human service setting, social service setting, or related field
- Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Proficiency with technology integration into daily program operations and evaluation systems
- Ability to build positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the organization
- Able to do the required number of home visits per month
- Ability to pass a criminal record and child abuse/neglect registry check
- Must have a valid Driver’s License, access to reliable transportation and willingness to travel locally
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
- As of October 15, 2021, all BUILD employees are required to submit proof of full vaccination status
