Satellite Systems Design & Analysis Lead
$96,200–$133,200 year
On-site · Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Job Summary
Lead a dual-role within Kepler’s Systems Engineering team: Satellite Systems Designer driving spacecraft-level architectures, budgets, requirements, interfaces, and verification strategies; and Functional Lead for the Satellite Engineering and Analysis (SEA) Team, defining standards, reviewing deliverables, mentoring engineers, and guiding the growth of SEA capabilities. Responsibilities include leading trades and budget closure across mass, power, RF link, propellant, reliability/availability, FMECA/FDIR standardization, and ensuring architectural consistency. The role encompasses hiring support, onboarding, and building scalable processes, with emphasis on leveraging AI-enabled tools to improve SEA workflows while maintaining validation, traceability, and human oversight. This position starts as discipline stewardship and technical leadership and is expected to evolve into broader functional leadership as the team expands. Key activities include defining system architectures, managing requirements and verification strategies, conducting advanced trade studies and risk assessments, leading integration and test campaigns, overseeing budgets across disciplines, collaborating with subsystem leads, and acting as the technical interface to program managers, product assurance, and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in spacecraft systems engineering with a focus on system architecture, technical budgets, and cross-disciplinary design trades
- Proven expertise in system-level trade studies and managing spacecraft budgets (mass, power, link, propellant, reliability/availability)
- Experience developing and applying FDIR, FMECA, and reliability strategies at spacecraft or system level
- Strong technical leadership and mentoring skills with interest in growing a functional team
- Experience using AI-enabled tools, workflow automation, or agent-based systems to improve engineering productivity, documentation, analysis workflows, or knowledge management
- Ability to define repeatable processes and drive engineering standards across programs
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities
- Knowledge of mission analysis outputs and how they drive spacecraft architecture
- Ability to identify high-value opportunities for automation or AI assistance within systems engineering workflows
