Job Summary
Responsible for performing phlebotomy in inpatient and outpatient settings across medical/surgical and behavioral medicine areas, including all aspects of specimen collection, documentation, and submission to the laboratory for analysis. Responsibilities may include specimen reception and support in satellite labs and clients' offices. Requires standing/walking up to 100% of shifts; fast-paced patient service environment with strong knowledge of medical terminology, lab orders, and specimen handling. Rotation to inpatient/outpatient labs and the ability to answer results and assist with outreach operations; proficient in collection techniques (vacutainer, syringe, butterfly, capillary). Requires current certification in phlebotomy (AMT/ASCP/NCPT/NCCT) and Heart Saver; 3+ months inpatient phlebotomy experience or successful externship. Emphasizes adherence to policies, safety, ethics, and customer service in a hospital setting; works under minimal supervision and supports Trinity Health Values.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Completion of Medical Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant or Phlebotomy program or equivalent
- Two year college degree in biological science or health related field (preferred)
- Current certification: AMT OR ASCP OR NCPT OR NCCT
- Current Heart Saver (HS) certification
- Minimum 3 months inpatient phlebotomy experience OR completed phlebotomy externship
