Job Summary
Deliver engaging interactive lessons covering SAT Reading, Writing, and Language content while tutoring students one-on-one or in small groups. Develop and administer practice exams to simulate the testing environment, analyze results to identify strengths and areas for improvement, and teach strategies such as time management and process of elimination. Create and update lesson plans tailored to diverse learning styles, staying current with changes to the SAT exam format. Regularly assess student progress, provide constructive feedback on essay writing, and maintain records of performance to communicate with parents. Motivate students to achieve academic goals and offer guidance on study habits and stress reduction.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or a related field
- Proven experience teaching SAT English, particularly in an online setting
- A track record of helping students achieve significant score improvements on standardized tests like the SAT
- Experience with curriculum development, specifically for online test preparation courses
- Teaching certification is a plus but not mandatory
- Certifications related to test preparation (e.g., from recognized test prep organizations) are advantageous
- Familiarity with online teaching platforms (e.g., Zoom)
- Proficiency in using educational technology tools such as interactive whiteboards, online quizzes, and learning management systems (LMS)
- Experience with content creation tools like video editing software, presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint), and online collaboration tools
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly in an online environment
- Ability to engage and motivate students virtually
- Proficiency in creating clear and concise written materials, such as lesson plans, study guides, and feedback reports
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to fit the virtual learning environment
- Experience with differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of online learners
- Flexibility to adjust lesson plans based on student feedback and performance
- Experience in providing timely and constructive feedback to students in a virtual setting
- Familiarity with online assessment tools and the ability to analyze student data to inform instruction
- Knowledge of online SAT practice platforms and resources (e.g., Khan Academy, College Board resources)
- Ability to recommend and integrate these resources into lesson plans effectively
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple students, classes, and tasks in an online setting
- Ability to maintain consistent communication and follow-up with students and parents/guardians via email or other online communication tools
- Experience in creating engaging, interactive, and student-centered lessons that work well in a virtual format
- Ability to build rapport with students and create a positive online learning environment
- Access to a high-speed, reliable internet connection that supports video conferencing and online teaching tools
- A quiet, professional setting for conducting online classes without interruptions or distractions
- A computer or laptop with a webcam, microphone, and necessary software to facilitate online teaching
- Backup equipment or solutions in case of technical difficulties
- Flexibility to teach during evenings, weekends, or other times that accommodate students' schedules, particularly across different time zones
- Ability to commit to a regular schedule, ensuring consistency for students
- Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development to stay updated on best practices in online education and SAT preparation
