Job Summary
Collect garbage for commercial and residential accounts while operating a Flatbed truck to deliver, repair, replace, or pickup containers. Perform minor maintenance on heavy equipment, clean the dumpster yard, and manage litter around containment areas and the Transfer Station. Assist route drivers with daily pre/post checks and utilize the Fleetmind system during collection. Greet customers, inspect loads, direct traffic, and report safety issues to supervisors. Work in all weather conditions while wearing designated PPE.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Two (2) years' work experience
- Ability to Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work
- Knowledge of principles and practices of sanitation collection services
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices
- Ability to perform sanitation services for commercial and residential accounts for the city
- Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, or local laws, regulations, or ordinances
- Knowledge of city streets layout
- Ability to Perform minor maintenance activities on sanitation heavy equipment
- Ability to work in all types of weather conditions (Rain, Snow, freezing temperatures, Sunny, Windy Etc.) during their shifts
- Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing
- Maintain the physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time and lifting to 50 pounds
- Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities
