Job Summary
Gather and carry trash containers from individual yards along routes, dump refuse into the truck, and operate the hoisting device to raise refuse bins. Dump contents into the enclosed truck body, collect separated recycling materials, and assist with unloading and cleaning the garbage truck at the dump site. Perform heavy manual labor requiring lifting up to 100 pounds under the direction of a supervisor and Motor Equipment Operator. Adhere to all City of Marion Safety Rules and pass required background checks, physical exams, and drug/alcohol tests.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Two or more years construction experience
- Valid unrestricted Ohio Driver's License
- Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with any endorsements required by law
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Must regularly stand
- Must frequently walk
- Must use hands to finger, handle, or feel
- Must reach with hands and arms
- Must talk or hear
- Must taste or smell
