Job Summary
Process customer transactions at the sales counter including cash and debit/credit sales ensuring accuracy, and provide positive service to customers. Assist in reclamation, processing, and distribution of warehouse goods by receiving, sorting, storing, and pricing donations. Maintain an attractive display merchandise layout to maximize store profitability while keeping the sales floor neat and clean. Perform opening and closing procedures for POS terminals and tills, rotate stock as directed, and operate forklifts after training. Handle heavy lifting, ladder work, and janitorial duties in common spaces while adhering to safety policies. Meet assigned daily targets for counts, weighs, and records of incoming and outgoing donations.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- WHMIS Certificate
- First Aid Certificate
- A minimum of three (3) months prior related experience
- An original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army
- Ability to work in compliance with fire safety, health & safety and emergency procedures
- Willingness to be trained and follow direction
- Attention to detail
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality
- Professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility
- Physical ability to frequently stand for long periods of time, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching overhead, pulling and pushing, kneeling & lifting up to 25 pounds
- Ability to climb ladders and store seasonal product in overhead storage bins
- Ability to lift and relocate bags and boxes to determined areas as required
- Ability to perform moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, adhering to safety procedures and regulations
- Ability to work under disagreeable conditions including odors, dealing with angry people, exposure to drugs and alcohol, verbal abuse, various weather conditions, and risk of moderate to severe injury
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to operate the forklift to move goods as necessary after sufficient training
