Job Summary

Monitor for suspicious or threatening activities across campus facilities and escort students and employees to safe destinations. Conduct regular on-foot inspections of assigned buildings, checking doors, windows, gates, and alarm status while maintaining awareness of fire codes and maintenance issues. Safeguard property against hazards by ensuring proper illumination, taking prompt action to eliminate immediate dangers, and responding immediately to emergency situations or evacuation needs. Provide perimeter control and assist in building evacuations when necessary, reporting life-threatening conditions or property loss to proper authorities. Maintain equipment and vehicles, participate in required training, and represent the university positively to students, faculty, and staff while adhering to all safety policies and confidentiality standards.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years work experience
  • Prior safety related work experience preferred
  • Display effective use of professional judgment and discretion
  • Display strong communication skills
  • Be able to react quickly and respond in a helpful manner
  • Physically able to provide assistance and protection to others in any situation
  • Regularly required to stand
  • Regularly required to walk
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms
  • Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Close vision
  • Color vision
  • Peripheral vision

  • Regularly exposed to extreme cold

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekend hours

  • Must be available to aid and security in escorting students and employees to appropriate destinations
  • Must always be highly visible and available for student and employee safety needs
  • Must monitor people in buildings requiring authorization for being there and requiring those not authorized to leave
  • Must maintain an awareness of route information such as building hours, fire and intrusion alarm status, and on-going maintenance problems
  • Stay knowledgeable of state fire codes, university safety guidelines, and policies governing university buildings
  • Must work cooperatively with others providing a courteous, complete and efficient service
  • Must maintain proper care and control of department equipment and vehicles
  • Must have a positive work attendance
  • Must be able to react quickly and respond in a helpful manner
