Job Summary
SEPTA seeks a Safety Risk Management Specialist, Safety Officer to coordinate and support safety, health, and environmental hazard prevention across the organization. The role concentrates on one of five specialty areas—Operational Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Safety, Accident Prevention and Investigation, and/or Safety Regulatory Compliance— with responsibilities defined by current staffing needs. The position requires collaboration with management, bargaining-unit employees, and external regulatory agencies, adherence to SMS and SRM processes, hazard identification and mitigation, regulatory reporting, and the development of corrective actions. Duties include maintaining hazard logs, supporting CAPs, incident investigations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education/experience), five years of related experience, a valid driver’s license, and safety certifications (PTSCP, TSSP as applicable). The role may require non-traditional hours and a flexible schedule, with duties performed at SEPTA Headquarters or other assignment locations as needed. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Safety Management, Operations Management, Emergency Management, Transportation, Business Management, Quality Management, Systems Management, or related field highly preferred
- Five (5) years’ experience in System Safety, Transportation Operations or Maintenance, Project Management, or Emergency Management
- Experience in Public Transportation Industry preferred
- USDOT TSI Safety and Security Program Certification (TSSP- Rail and/or TSSP-Bus)
- FTA Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program Certification (PTSCTP)
- Knowledge of Military Standard 882 (MIL-STD-882)
- Knowledge of FTA Safety and Security Certification Handbook
- Strong verbal and technical writing skills
- MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint proficiency
- Valid driver’s license
