Job Summary
Monitor and control visitor access to campus facilities while maintaining an orderly post to foster a positive work environment. Fulfill duties associated with the School's safety plan to comply with strategic goals, directly supporting the safety of students, staff, and the overall community. Direct traffic, manage pedestrian crosswalks, and respond to crises as appropriate, collaborating with internal and external personnel on standardized responses to critical incidents. Actively participate in training programs for safety and accident prevention, monitor security equipment, and exercise dignity when interacting with the USM community. Assist administration in student supervision and manage resources efficiently.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in law enforcement policies and procedures, crime prevention, investigations, public safety training, and operations
- Strong decision-making ability
- Ability to de-escalate confrontations
- Resource management skills
- Ability to make recommendations on various topics
- Ability to exercise strict confidentiality in handling sensitive information
- Ability to manage critical incidents successfully
- Ability to successfully work and interact professionally with a diverse population
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Ability to learn about the USM culture and community served
- Strong interpersonal skills; capable of using tact and diplomacy in dealing with others
- High level of maturity, confidentiality, assertiveness and independence
- Capable of competently operating technology
- Must possess a valid HR-218 L.E.O.S.A. certification
- Must be a former law enforcement officer
- Must be able to pass pre-employment tests including physical agility, drug, and psychological evaluation tests
- Current driver's license
