Job Summary
Embedded safety leader for Pankow’s self-perform concrete operations, partnering with Concrete Operations leadership, Superintendents, and craft professionals to strengthen planning, risk management, and the HOP culture. Supports multiple projects (buildings, parking structures, elevated decks, slabs-on-grade, foundations, and structural frames) with a primary focus on Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention, proactive risk/injury management, and continuous operational improvement. Functions as a field-based facilitator integrating safety into production planning, not just compliance. Key duties include participating in preconstruction and lookahead planning, strengthening Pre-Task Planning and Project Risk Profile development, overseeing high-risk concrete activities (formwork, PT decks, crane and rigging, excavation, silica control), leading incident learning teams, promoting safe reporting, analyzing leading indicators, and ensuring Cal/OSHA and other regulations compliance. Requires CHST (or ability to obtain) and 5+ years of safety experience with 3+ years in concrete/heavy civil construction; strong knowledge of fall protection, scaffolding, excavation, cranes & rigging, and silica standards.
Required Qualifications
- CHST required
- ASP or CSP required (or ability to obtain within defined timeframe)
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred; or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of safety-related experience
- 3+ years supporting concrete or heavy civil construction operations
- Experience overseeing safety across multiple concurrent projects
