Job Summary
The Safety Lead (Manager) role focuses on designing and leading risk-based occupational safety programs across high-risk environments (construction, facilities management, operations) at KAUST. Responsibilities include guiding a team of Safety Specialists, conducting inspections, risk assessments, audits, incident investigations, corrective actions, and training; ensuring ISO 45001 and regulatory alignment; providing safety performance insights to the Health and Safety Manager; and driving continual improvement through proactive risk identification, field verification, and evidence maintenance. The role requires strong leadership, independent risk-based decision-making, and the ability to deliver measurable safety improvements while coordinating with stakeholders across facilities management, projects, engineering, contractors, and service providers. Competencies include incident investigations (root cause analysis), safety data interpretation, development of safety standards and training materials, and effective communication to achieve safe outcomes in a dynamic operational environment. The position requires physical fitness to operate in operational settings and wearing PPE as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, engineering, or a safety related discipline (required)
- ISO 45001 Lead Auditor (required)
- Valid driver’s license (required)
- Minimum 6+ years of relevant experience in occupational health and safety or a related field, with exposure to operational safety environments such as facilities, construction, contractor management, and projects (required)
- Experience leading high-risk operational safety activities, guiding safety personnel, influencing operational stakeholders, and implementing safety controls in facilities, construction, projects, contractor management, maintenance, or other complex operational environments (required)
- Previous lead safety role or equivalent responsibility for safety program delivery, field verification, incident investigation quality, and corrective action effectiveness (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating safety teams (required)
- Experience working in complex, multi-stakeholder environments (required)
