Job Summary
Safety Engineer III at JPL responsible for coordinating ground-based pressure safety initiatives, interpreting ASME BPVC and API standards for in-service inspections, and providing technical oversight of NDT programs. The role includes training, examining, certifying, and monitoring NDT personnel; certifying procedures and workmanship; interfacing with management, NASA, and external organizations; and may involve overtime and travel. Preferred deep expertise in pressure vessels, cryogenic services, and NDT methods (VT, MT, PT, UT) with the ability to apply certification and qualification procedures across the organization.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science
- Minimum 6 years of related experience (or Master’s with 4 years, or PhD with 2 years)
- Experience leading NDT operations and interpreting codes and standards
- ASNT Level III certification or equivalent
- Ability to train, examine, and certify NDT personnel (Level I-III)
- Proven ability to oversee NDT procedures and inspections
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to work overtime and travel as needed
- AWS CWI welding inspector certification
