Job Summary
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and Johnson Space Center requirements through audits, walk-throughs, and hazard identification in fabrication and research labs. Mentor staff on the JETS Safety Program, develop technical documents, and create hazard analysis products including System Hazard Analysis and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis. Independently analyze system designs to control hazards, conduct incident investigations, and provide periodic safety reports to management. Deliver safety and environmental health training, manage ergonomic assessments, and coordinate hazardous materials and workplace exposure sampling. Perform User Readiness Reviews and recommend procurement for personal protective equipment.
Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- Bachelor's degree in the field of engineering
- 5+ years of recent and direct safety engineering work experience
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations
- Ability to pass a national agency check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Ability to participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS
- Team player with strong work ethics
- Culture oriented
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers
- Ability to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives
- Organized with good time management skills
- Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements
- Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule
Desired Qualifications
- Direct experience with Incident & Injury Free and Behavior-Based Safety techniques
- Experience in medical/scientific locations
- MS degree in area of specialty
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification
