Job Summary
Safety and Health Internship/Co-op Program offering real-world exposure to manufacturing safety functions and responsibilities across multiple focus areas (occupational safety & health, industrial hygiene, fire safety/hazardous materials, ergonomics, systems safety/process safety, environmental safety, emergency preparedness). Placements will be assigned nationwide at Smurfit Westrock locations. Candidates will gain understanding of safety programs, policies, and procedures, participate in mentoring and career networking events, and may be placed in one of several concentration areas. Requirements include pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field, rising junior or senior undergraduate status preferred, ability to work around moving/heavy equipment, willingness to work in industrial environments, adherence to safety rules, and a drug screening after a conditional offer.
Required Qualifications
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Environmental, Health & Safety, Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene or other science field
- Rising Junior or a Senior (undergraduate)preferred
- Willing to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations
- Willing to work around moving or heavy equipment
- Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment
- Candidates are required to undergo a drug screening after receiving a conditional job offer, but before starting employment
