Safety and Security Specialist

Job Summary
Monitor access control systems, respond to alarms and emergency situations, and conduct routine patrols to ensure the safety of Los Angeles County departmental facilities. Screen all public, internal, and external personnel at entrance points, perform searches of facilities and vehicles, and uphold departmental policies. Maintain accurate logs and incident reports while communicating effectively with management, staff, and the public. Carry a firearm during duties and distinguish between situations requiring counseling or intervention by peace officers. Create work schedules, assess staffing requirements, and coordinate coverage for shifts as needed. Positions are non-peace officer roles requiring a valid California Guard Card, Exposed Firearm Permit, and either three years of peace officer or military law enforcement experience. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid Class C Driver's License.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- Three (3) years of prior peace officer experience from a Federal, state, county, or local law enforcement agency
- Completion of a P.O.S.T. academy
- Completion of a Federal, state, county, or local law enforcement training academy with a verifiable certificate or transcript
- A current, valid California Guard Card
- A current, valid California Exposed Firearm Permit
- Three (3) years of prior military experience
- Completion or graduation from a military law enforcement training academy or program that provided instruction on the use of police powers in an armed capacity equivalent to a peace officer, which must include general arrest authority
- A certificate or transcript of equivalent training to a peace officer
- A valid California Class C Driver License
- Must be 21 years of age at time of filing
- Ability to perform the essential functions of this classification, with or without a reasonable accommodation
