Job Summary
Instruct, mentor, and engage Scouts (ages 11-17) in S.T.E.M. merit badge courses by presenting to groups of 5-20 youth to transfer knowledge and empower skill application. Assist with setup, maintenance, and takedown of program and camping areas, while coordinating and collecting instructional materials. Turn in accurate advancement paperwork to a supervisor and participate in camp-wide activities including campfires and evening programs. Model the Scout Oath and Law, maintain a clean and safe work area, and perform additional duties assigned by leadership. Work 50+ hours daily, hiking up to 8 hours and lifting 50 pounds, with a requirement to become a registered Scouting America member.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age: 18+
- Comfortable speaking and presenting in front of youth and adults
- Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)
- Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication
- Ability to stand, walk, and hike, up to 8 hours daily
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
- Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
- Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp
- Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform
- Work Hours: 50+
Desired Qualifications
- Previous science, technology, engineering, and/or Scouting experience/education preferred
- High-level emotional intelligence (such as self/social awareness and team dynamics)
- Positive and cheerful attitude with a strong customer-service focus
- Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with ability to learn/develop hard and soft skills
- Ability to connect with individuals from diverse age groups, maturity, and backgrounds
