Job Summary
Fabricate the metal body on fire apparatus by reading blueprints and specifications to ensure workable products. Weld, sand, cut, and bolt materials to construct the body, then mount the body and pump house onto the subframe. Install support for equipment as needed and perform other duties required by management. This role involves working in a manufacturing environment with moderate to very loud noise, fumes, and potential exposure to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat during summer months.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED
- 6 months' experience using MIG and TIG welding equipment
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Knowledge of basic inspection tools, machining skills or related fields
- Able to recognize the importance and adhere to all safety policies to promote a safe working environment
- Able to read and work from blueprints/spec book
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude
- Ability to use basic hand tools and tape measure
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends occasionally
