Job Summary
Deliver therapeutic, diagnostic, and life-support respiratory care in general and intensive patient care areas or home care environments. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to achieve optimum outcomes, while collaborating with the healthcare team to develop and revise age-specific interdisciplinary plans of care. Accurately administer treatments and medications, identify caregiver educational needs, and document all activities. Participate in performance improvement programs, manage resources, and resolve patient and personnel situations using problem-solving methods. Orient new employees, provide feedback to staff, and contribute to departmental educational activities and decision-making processes.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree and/or certification required from a CoARC (Committee on Accreditation of Respiratory Care Education) approved school of respiratory therapy
- Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the VA State Board of Medicine
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care
- Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills
- Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position
- Be able to acquire BLS within 3 months of employment in this position or as determined by department
- ACLS, NRP, PALS certification within one year of employment
