Job Summary
Conduct program intakes and assessments with unhoused and housed adults to develop action plans for housing stability. Prepare rent, arrears, and utility bill payments while verifying eligibility through the Benefit Verification System. Maintain accurate records in the Homeless Management Information System and distribute essential need items and free ORCA bus passes. Assist participants in navigating landlord communications and eviction processes, and schedule follow-up meetings to support housing stability goals. Work independently with little supervision, utilizing language line assistance for non-English speakers and adhering to strict confidentiality guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in social services or a related field, or commensurate experience in social services
- At least one year of experience in direct provision of social services, preferably with people experiencing housing instability
- Understanding of problems people experiencing housing instability often face, including poverty, substance use, mental health, domestic violence, and long-term homelessness
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Good office computer skills, with ability to maintain complex client records
- Ability to set priorities and work independently as well as on a team
- Commitment to social justice, anti-racism and to working within the mission, goals and objective of Catholic Community Services
- Ability to pass a background check
- Able to hear telephone rings, phone conversation and face-to-face conversation, door bells and emergency alarms
- Able to speak clearly in person and on the telephone
- Able to hand write legibly
- Vision that enables person to read normal size print and handwritten notes; and distance and peripheral vision than enables person to monitor living spaces and identify concerns that require staff response
- Able to sit for sustained periods of time
- Able to walk the entire building and ascend and descend stairs quickly to move from one floor to another in order to respond to emergency situations
- Mobility/dexterity of hands/arms to enable keying into a unit or other locked area as well as using computers and other office equipment
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and to work independently and as a team member
- Regularly able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds
- Ability to make independent decisions and apply sound judgment in performing job duties
- Ability to pass a background check
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Social Work or a related field
- Fluency in second language that is spoken by a substantial number of HEN recipients
- Reliable vehicle and willingness to commute between offices
