Job Summary
Design, develop, and maintain PHSD backend services using Java and Spring Boot, including React-based user interfaces for provider search and directory management. Implement FHIR R4/R4B APIs with Smile CDR and AWS HealthLake, while building real-time data synchronization between PHSD and master data platforms. Develop secure OAuth2/OIDC authentication workflows and integrate healthcare applications with Provider Registry, hospital information systems, and provincial services using HL7v2 and SMART on FHIR. Build scalable cloud-native AWS architectures supporting high availability, operational resilience, and advanced provider directory search capabilities. Participate in architecture reviews, sprint planning, and code reviews, while supporting CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production troubleshooting. Produce technical documentation and API specifications to support internal and external consuming applications.
Required Qualifications
- Senior Full Stack software development experience delivering complex healthcare, cloud, integration, or digital health modernization projects
- Extensive Java and Spring Boot microservices development experience
- Experience designing and developing REST APIs and FHIR APIs
- Hands-on experience with Smile CDR implementation and customization
- Experience with AWS HealthLake and FHIR repository implementation
- Experience developing healthcare interoperability solutions using FHIR R4/R4B, SMART on FHIR, HL7v2, OAuth2/OIDC, and JWT
- Experience integrating healthcare applications with Provider Registry, Master Data Management systems, and the EPIC EHR, Meditech and Cerner
- Experience with Central Intake hubs such as RICOH and Novari
- Experience implementing advanced provider directory search using OpenSearch or Elasticsearch
- Public Sector Experience
- Experience with PostgreSQL and healthcare data modelling
- Experience using AWS services including ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SNS, SQS, EventBridge, CloudWatch, IAM, Secrets Manager, and CloudFormation or CDK
- Experience developing secure APIs using OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, RBAC, and confidential client authentication
- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder collaboration skills

- Experience implementing or supporting provider directory solutions
- Experience integrating with hospital information systems including Epic, Oracle Health (Cerner), MEDITECH, or other Canadian EMRs
- Experience implementing provider, practitioner, organization, location, and healthcare service master data management solutions
- Experience implementing healthcare search platforms using OpenSearch for provider and service discovery
- Experience with FHIR Subscriptions, FHIR Messaging, EventBridge, SNS, and SQS for event-driven healthcare integration
- Experience validating FHIR implementations using Inferno, Touchstone, or other interoperability testing frameworks
- Experience configuring and supporting AWS HealthLake, Smile CDR, and healthcare interoperability platforms
- Experience implementing secure SMART on FHIR applications, confidential clients, and backend services
- Experience designing highly available AWS architectures using ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFront, S3, Aurora PostgreSQL, and CloudWatch
- Experience implementing monitoring, logging, auditing, and operational support using AWS CloudWatch and related AWS services
