Job Summary
Monitor and respond to two-way radio communications, answer and route telephone calls, and handle incoming concerns from parents while assisting in solving route overloads and equipment issues. Update assigned route maps and descriptions in Skyward and Transfinder, manage multiple emails to assign students to routes, and efficiently use Zonar, Infofinder, and Routefinder programs. Respond appropriately to emergencies, supervise students during transport, and perform as a substitute driver or monitor as needed. Complete assigned tasks accurately with minimal supervision, maintain routing information, and participate in training to exercise responsible leadership. Work a split shift from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., demonstrating diplomacy and flexibility under pressure.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must meet all contractual, local, state, and federal requirements of a professional driver
- Must meet all qualifications for a bus driver for DISD
- Must maintain an exemplary driving record per DISD safe driving incentive guidelines
- Must have and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with all appropriate endorsements and classifications and all other required licenses, permits, and certifications
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly in person, via telephone and two-way radio
- Knowledge of record-keeping and office procedures
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize effectively
- Must demonstrate diplomacy and flexibility at all times
- Must be able to work a split shift (i.e., 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.)
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of two years experience as a school bus driver in a public school district (preferred)
