Job Summary
Room Service Cook II prepares hospital and cafeteria meals per established recipes, reviews menu entrees for timely preparation, cooks main entrees and sauces, assists with salads and cold plates, and ensures proper portioning, portion control, and sanitary conditions. Responsibilities include coordinating quantities with supervisors to minimize waste, operating ovens, grills, fryers, slicers, mixers, and other kitchen equipment, tasting for correct seasoning and serving temperature, and maintaining a clean, orderly work area. Requires knowledge gained from an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts (preferred), with 1–3 years of extensive production experience preferred; English literacy and basic math skills are needed; ability to stand for long periods and lift moderate to heavy food supplies; and may require Food Safety certification (Manager Certified preferred). The role is based at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI, and is part-time (4p-8p shifts, Mon-Fri, with weekends as needed), under Brown University Health, an equal opportunity employer.
Required Qualifications
- Associates Degree in Culinary Arts preferred
- Manager Certified in Food Safety License preferred
- read, write, speak English; perform mathematical calculations
- ability to plan food preparation to ensure proper preparation for assigned menu
- physical ability to stand; lift moderate to heavy items
- operate a variety of kitchen equipment
- read and follow recipes
- minimum of one year experience; three years preferred in production
