Job Summary
Support the Lead Rolling Stock Engineer in project delivery by providing expert technical advice on rolling stock design, development, and safety for at-grade, elevated, and underground tunnel rail sections. Define interface specifications for suppliers, liaise with project controls to monitor design progress, and ensure adherence to safety, quality, cost, and schedule deliverables. Conduct design reviews, fault analyses, and site inspections to verify construction quality, while overseeing subsystem designs for HVAC, propulsion, and automatic train control. Analyze RAMS performance against client specifications and coordinate integration with signaling, platform screen doors, and civil infrastructure. Review and approve contractor designs to ensure compliance with railway standards and client requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Mechanical / Electrical Engineering degree, diploma or professional qualification
- Minimum 12 years mechanical engineering work experience
- Experience of working on large, complex and multidisciplinary projects
- Current or recent broad knowledge of the rail industry
- Significant technical experience relevant to the design delivery of the mechanical aspects of rolling stock
- Demonstrable experience in the design of rolling stock
- Strong understanding of railway approvals, practices and standards including EN 50126, EN 50129, IEC 61133, IEC1287 and NFPA 130
- Strong understanding of railway approvals, practices and standards including UIC- 615, UIC-515, IEC 61133 and NFPA 130, EN12663,EN15827
- Railway interiors and paneling experience
- Working experience with Bombardier's/Siemens rolling stock
- Chartered Engineer status
- Knowledge of rail communication concepts and principles
- Knowledge of overhead traction power reticulation systems
- Excellent English language skills (written and verbal)
