Job Summary
Drive heavy rolling machines to compact earth fills, subgrades, flexible base, and bituminous surfaces to grade specifications for highways, streets, and runways. Control and guide the equipment by manipulating levers, pedals, handwheels, and throttle while determining speed and direction based on material compressibility and temperature. Operate hand tampers and portable power rollers on areas inaccessible to the road roller. Read engineering drawings, judge distances and slopes accurately, and follow safety standards in dusty surroundings.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
- Proper certification
- Appropriate training and experience
- Ability to read engineering drawing
- Ability to practice good safety habits
- Ability to work in dusty or dirty surroundings
- Ability to follow instructions and meet set standards
- Ability to judge distances and slopes accurately
- Ability to make decisions based on verifiable standards
- Ability to stoop, bend, and crouch
- Ability to use hands, arms, and legs fully
- Good vision (either naturally or with correction)
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds
