Robotic Weld Engineer
On-siteAlexandria, Minnesota, United States
Job Summary
Develop, program, and optimize robotic welding applications using FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa/Motoman, or KUKA systems through teach pendant and offline programming. Establish and validate weld parameters for quality and productivity targets while troubleshooting production issues related to fit-up, distortion, and porosity. Program CNC equipment including laser cutters and press brakes using SolidWorks or AutoCAD, and design tooling and fixtures to enhance fabrication precision. Support New Product Introduction by reviewing designs for manufacturability and developing weld sequences, then collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects meet ISO 9001/AS9100 standards. Implement lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve cycle times, while training staff and maintaining documentation for process repeatability.
Required Qualifications
- Associates or Bachelor's degree in Welding Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–7 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in sheet metal fabrication or contract manufacturing with an emphasis on programming industrial robots for welding applications
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal processes (e.g., shearing, laser/plasma cutting, forming, MIG/TIG welding, finishing)
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Nesting software) and ERP/MRP systems
- Experience with lean manufacturing tools, process optimization, and quality systems (e.g., PFMEA, control plans)
