Job Summary

Perform and lead roadway engineering design and analysis for assigned projects, developing plans, alignments, profiles, and cross sections based on PennDOT standards. Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, reports, and construction documents while applying judgment to evaluate design alternatives and constructability challenges. Coordinate technical work with project managers, survey, environmental, and traffic disciplines, and interpret agency requirements to support scope, schedules, and budgets. Participate in field investigations, construction-phase activities, and QA/QC reviews, providing guidance to developing engineers. This role offers a transition point for deepening expertise across transportation project delivery while strengthening PennDOT experience. You will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers in a collaborative, employee-owned environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
  • Professional engineering experience focused on roadway or transportation infrastructure design
  • Professional experience supporting PennDOT roadway or transportation projects
  • Professional experience using CAD and/or transportation-design software
  • Demonstrated ability to independently perform roadway engineering and design assignments
  • Experience preparing engineering plans, calculations, reports, specifications, estimates, or other technical project deliverables
  • Working knowledge of roadway engineering principles, design standards, and project-delivery requirements
  • Ability to interpret and apply applicable PennDOT and other roadway-design requirements
  • Experience coordinating technical assignments within multidisciplinary project teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, and deadlines

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with OpenRoads Designer and/or MicroStation
  • Horizontal and vertical roadway design experience
  • Roadway grading and cross-section development
  • Intersection design
  • ADA and pedestrian accessibility design
  • Roadway drainage coordination or design
  • Erosion and sediment control coordination or design
  • Utility coordination
  • Maintenance and protection of traffic
  • Signing and pavement-marking design
  • Quantity calculations and cost estimating
  • Roadway rehabilitation, resurfacing, or reconstruction projects
  • Technical or QA/QC review experience
  • Construction-phase engineering experience
  • Experience providing technical guidance or mentorship to developing Engineers or Designers
  • Experience supporting project schedules, budgets, scopes, or proposals
  • Client, municipal, or agency coordination experience
