Job Summary
Conduct road tests on medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles to verify repairs, diagnose concerns, and confirm performance. Evaluate steering, suspension, brakes, transmission, and engine operation while performing pre- and post-trip inspections for safety and compliance. Accurately document findings and communicate results to service technicians and management. Transport customer and company vehicles between dealership locations, inspection stations, and vendors. Assist technicians with intermittent issues, move trucks within the facility, and support parts department operations. Maintain detailed records of vehicle movement and inspections while adhering to DOT and federal regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Class A CDL
- Clean driving record with the ability to meet company insurance requirements
- Strong knowledge of commercial vehicle operation and performance characteristics
- Ability to identify vehicle performance issues and clearly communicate findings
- Understanding of DOT regulations and vehicle safety standards
- Ability to operate manual and automatic transmissions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to climb in and out of commercial vehicles multiple times per day
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in varying weather conditions
- Ability to safely operate heavy-duty commercial vehicles
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial truck driving experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
