Job Summary
The Charge Auditor – Surgical Services (RN) conducts retrospective audits of inpatient and outpatient surgical cases to ensure complete, accurate, and compliant charge capture. Identifies missing or incorrect charges by reviewing operative reports, intraoperative documentation, preference cards, and supply usage, then validates charges against AORN standards, payer guidelines, and documentation requirements. Collaborates with Compliance, Coding, Billing, and Surgical service lines to resolve discrepancies and educate the Charge Capture team on surgical workflows and nursing documentation. Utilizes EMR/ERP/charge‐capture systems (e.g., Cerner, Premier, STAR) to review, analyze, and reconcile charges, maintaining audit findings and action plans. Communicates audit outcomes to leadership, participates in multidisciplinary meetings to address documentation and system issues, and recommends workflow/process improvements to enhance revenue integrity and documentation quality.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (preferred)
- Minimum 3 years of perioperative experience as a circulating nurse (required)
- Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required)
- AORN certification (preferred)
