Job Summary
Registered Nurse for Surgical Specialty Unit (RN SSU) at MercyOne Genesis. Provides and directs safe, effective, culturally competent care for patients with acute medical and surgical conditions in a 12-hour day shift unit with telemetry as applicable. Responsibilities include initial assessments within 30 minutes of admission, developing and implementing outcome-based care plans, coordinating care with physicians and interdisciplinary team, supervising nursing staff, managing patient flow and discharge planning, cardiac monitoring when required, ensuring medication safety, and maintaining documentation and compliance with organizational policies. Requires an Iowa RN license (andIllinois license if applicable) and BLS; ACLS may be required depending on telemetry capabilities; BSN preferred; associate degree required.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in nursing required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Current Iowa RN license (MercyOne Genesis - current RN license in either Iowa or Illinois required at time of hire)
- Secondary RN license for the other state must be obtained within 12 months of hire
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required if telemetry monitoring capabilities
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three months of hire
- High language, intermediate to high math, high critical thinking ability
- Basic computer skills
