Job Summary

Prepare exam and treatment rooms with instruments and supplies, then take patient histories and vital signs. Assist with 12-lead EKGs and treadmill tests while administering prescribed treatments and dispensing oral medications. Observe, record, and repost patient conditions and drug reactions to physicians, and maintain timely patient flow. Screen telephone calls for referrals, instruct patients and families on medication and treatment instructions, and assist with chart maintenance. Comply with technical data for reports, attend clinical meetings, and participate in professional development. Maintain patient confidentiality and adapt to shifting priorities in a cardiology clinic environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Alaska State licensure for RN
  • Current CPR certification
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Knowledge of medical examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
  • Knowledge of AHI policies and procedures including common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
  • Knowledge of basic cardiac rhythm recognition
  • Knowledge of basic pharmacology including interactions and side effects
  • Knowledge of computer systems, AHI programs and applications
  • Skill in vital signs
  • Skill in EKG's
  • Skill in treadmills
  • Skill in sample collection
  • Skill in maintaining patient records and recording test results
  • Skill in patient education regarding a variety of cardiology issues and medications
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Ability to multi-task; perform tasks within time frames assigned
  • Demonstrate schedule flexibility; adjust to shifting priorities; stay organized in a changing environment; stay focused during stressful or difficult situations; exhibit comfort with ambiguity
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finer dexterity and eye-hand coordination
  • Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Requires corrected visual and hearing to normal ranges
  • Requires exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids
  • Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours
  • Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment
  • Performs all duties with active and continuous supervision by not necessarily requiring physical presence of supervising physician at time and place that services are rendered

  • Maintains timely flow of patients
  • Screens telephone calls for referral to physician
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatments instructions
  • Assists with maintenance of patient charts, records and other information
  • Complies and condenses technical and statistical data for reports and records
  • Attends clinical staff meetings
  • Participates in in-services, professional development and committees as requested
  • Maintains patient confidentiality

Desired Qualifications

  • Cardiology experience preferred
  • ACLS training asset
