Job Summary
Coordinate patient care throughout the stroke continuum by assisting physicians and APPs with acute stroke alerts, supporting interventions, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team for timely, evidence-based treatment. Manage multiple priorities during emergent situations, perform confident neurological assessments, and adhere to treatment protocols for specific emergencies. Effectively communicate care plans, assist with transport to emergency testing, and facilitate transfers to higher levels of care as indicated. Synergize with the stroke coordinator and neurosciences team to ensure comprehensive stroke center standards are met, including maintaining stroke program data and providing education to patients, families, and staff. Serve as a clinical resource for stroke protocols, quality improvement initiatives, and regulatory compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Minimum three years of RN acute care experience in the treatment of stroke patients
- Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure
- Current CPR Certification (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current ACLS Certification issued by American Heart Association, or obtain within 3 months of start date
- Current National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
- Weekends only: Saturday/Sunday; hours scheduled between 7:00AM and 7:00PM
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of RN critical care experience in an acute care setting (emergency or critical care) or 5 years experience inpatient stroke care setting
- Experience delivering care to patients diagnosed with acute stroke
- Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor during stressful circumstances
- Strong communication skills
