Job Summary
Carry out a specialized, expanded nursing role assisting surgeons in performing technical orthopedic surgical procedures with optimal patient results. Perform intra-operative tasks including homeostasis, exposure, closure, medication administration, and skin closure under surgeon direction. Develop preoperative plans, prepare surgical tools, assist with draping, and maintain sterile fields while adhering to safety laws and infection control principles. Functions under direct observation of the surgeon during intra-operative portions of practice, recognizing hazards and initiating corrective action as delegated. Requires unencumbered RN license, ACLS certification, and CNOR or ONC certification; offers 8-hour day shifts with a salary range of $32–$48.
Required Qualifications
- Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
- Certification by the Competency and Credentialing Institute Certification (CCI) for Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) or the Orthopedic Nurses Certification Board with certification in ONC within one years of meeting certification eligibility requirement is required
- Maintaining certification is a requirement for employment
Desired Qualifications
- Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred, including, but not limited to, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA)
- Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred
- Registered Nurse (RN) experience preferred
- Completion of surgical assisting program or on the job training
