Job Summary
Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, antineoplastics agents, hazardous drugs, and targeted therapies while performing the nursing process for malignant and nonmalignant conditions. Coordinate interdisciplinary care, documentation, and patient education within the NGOC Austell outpatient infusion center, serving as a clinical resource to nursing staff and medical providers. Mentor newly hired RN colleagues and participate in staff meetings, in-services, and performance improvement initiatives. Complete annual chemotherapy competence requirements and maintain specialty oncology certification through continuing education. Float between Cobb Hospital HODs as needed, with local travel required for all sites within 35 miles.
Required Qualifications
- RN license
- Knowledge of hazardous drug therapies for treating malignant and nonmalignant conditions
- Competency in administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, antineoplastics agents, hazardous drugs, and targeted therapies
- Understanding and awareness of age-appropriate and culturally aware needs
- Ability to address patient/family biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and education needs
- Ability to deliver patient care in complex situations
- Ability to serve as a clinical resource to nursing staff, operational leadership, and medical staff
- Knowledge of and ability to uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act
- Knowledge of and ability to implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association
- Ability to uphold the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals
- Ability to attend and participate in staff meetings, in-services, special projects and continued education
- Ability to serve as a preceptor for newly hired RN colleagues
- Ability to float between Cobb Hospital HOD's based on need
- Ability to perform the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) in the performance of clinical care using evidence-based practice
- Ability to use analytical/critical thinking and ensure care is individualized
- Ability to coordinate care through effective partnerships
- Ability to provide relationship-based patient-centered care consistent with population-specific characteristics
- Ability to adapt service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity
- Ability to partner with the patient and significant others using appropriate methods for setting and purpose
- Ability to keep the patient and significant others updated and make the patient's goals the focus of the plan of care
- Ability to practice using current clinical practice standards including but not limited to chemotherapy and targeted therapies for treating malignant and nonmalignant conditions
- Ability to meet annual requirements for chemotherapy competence
- Ability to coordinate the delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care
- Ability to practice in a manner that is fiscally responsible and promotes the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members
- Ability to participate and support performance improvement inclusive of all stakeholders, research and research utilization
- Ability to initiate and/or lead activities promoting an inter/intra-disciplinary process
- Ability to actively support/participate in shared governance at all levels in the system
- Ability to complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, required mandatory education, and population-specific education
- Ability to serve as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses (and staff or students for all disciplines)
- Ability to model the professional practice of nursing and create a healthy work environment
- Ability to cultivate oncology nursing knowledge and a commitment to providing the highest quality care by engaging in continuing education
- Ability to earn or maintain a specialty oncology certification
- Ability to obtain 12 continuing education credits annually
- Ability to promote evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement in nursing
- Ability to participate in activities such as value analysis as part of the decision making process in evaluating patient care products
- Ability to uphold all health care system/organizational policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description and professional association (i.e. Oncology Nursing Society)
- Ability to ensure goals such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and WellStar Health Systems safety absolutes
- Ability to participate in data collection
- Ability to pose relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence based practice
- Ability to consult appropriate experts and use appropriate resources and evidence to address practice questions
- Ability to proactively plan for the care of patients across the care continuum in the course of giving direct patient care
- Ability to participate in the development of protocols and procedures when called upon or through self-initiation in collaboration with care managers and other members of the health care team
- Ability to support efficient and effective use of human and material resources
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge, competency, and clinical expertise in oncology infusion therapy
