Job Summary

Oversee the overall operation of the Brown Cancer Center clinics to ensure patients are seen timely, rescheduled for follow-ups, and scheduled for treatments and procedures as ordered. Direct medical oncology consultations, review labs and tests in a timely manner, and provide comprehensive patient teaching regarding chemotherapy and side effects. Perform patient assessments including medical history updates, medication reconciliation, and focused system assessments while identifying adverse reactions and communicating pertinent information to providers. Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, treatments, education, medications, pain assessments, and critical labs. Coordinate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, including the Clinical Trials department, to ensure compliance with protocols and facilitate referrals for community resources. Initiate consent forms for procedures and treatments, supervise unlicensed personnel, and participate in quality improvement initiatives and accreditation surveys.

Required Qualifications

Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN)
must obtain or enroll in a BSN program within two (2) years of hire
Current ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification course provider card within 2 years of hire
Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
Three years nursing experience
Current unrestricted Kentucky license
ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider card
Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients, families, staff and general public and seek out appropriate assistance from leadership
Must have ability to provide assessment, collect information and draw appropriate decisions/conclusions to assist in guiding treatment for patients
Must have ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deliver successful results
Must have capacity to learn other relevant systems and databases as needed
Must be able to delegate appropriately to all unlicensed personnel and provide appropriate follow up to ensure care has been provided
Must be able to break down complex tasks into manageable parts in a systematic, detailed way and consider input from others
Must be detail oriented and check work continuously for quality and accuracy
Must be able to problem solve by identifying and resolving issues in a timely manner as well as assist with development of solutions
Must be flexible and ability to continually look for opportunities to make appropriate adjustments and changes
Must have strong relationship building skills and ability to make and use connections throughout UofL Hospital to complete projects and maintain strong partnerships with other departments
Must have strong initiative and be able to gather and analyze information skillfully and be able to develop alternative resources and directions
Graduation from an accredited/approved school of nursing
Two (2) years of oncology patient care experience preferred
Critical care and/or blood and marrow transplantation experience
Must be available for weekend shifts
Must be able to lift 50 lbs

ONCC certification (OCN, BMTCN and/or CBCN)
must obtain within 1 year of eligibility
Previous electronic medical record experience
