Job Summary
Provide nursing care on a high-paced orthopedic unit specializing in spinal surgery, using the nursing process to assess and coordinate care with other departments. Maintain patient rights and confidentiality, evaluate care effectiveness, and coordinate with direct care givers. Responsibilities include medication administration, IV therapy, wound care, patient education, and ongoing care planning for postoperative spine and medical patients. The unit emphasizes teamwork, a 5:1 patient-to-nurse ratio, specialized spine certification, and a personalized orientation process. Requires ACLS/BLS certification and a current RN license in the hiring state or compact licensure; physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds and standing/walking for shifts.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program
- Current RN license in the hiring state and/or compact licensure
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) or successful completion within 30 days of hire
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds; prolonged standing and walking; ability to reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat
- Experience in medical-surgical or orthopedic/postoperative spine setting is implied by unit description
