Job Summary
Provide direct patient care as an RN in lactation services. Responsibilities include lactation assessment, education, and support for postpartum patients and families; assist mothers with breastfeeding techniques, positioning, latch, and milk expression; develop individualized feeding plans based on maternal and infant needs; identify and manage common breastfeeding challenges (e.g., latch difficulties, low milk supply, engorgement); educate patients on benefits of breastfeeding and evidence-based lactation practices; support initiation and maintenance of breastfeeding in high-risk populations, including NICU patients; collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care; document care, education, and outcomes in the electronic medical record; provide instructions on use and care of breast pumps and related equipment; promote Baby-Friendly practices and adherence to hospital breastfeeding policies; participate in discharge planning and ensure continuity of lactation support after discharge; ongoing professional development through continuing education; serve as a resource and educator for staff regarding breastfeeding support and policies; ensure compliance with hospital, state, and regulatory guidelines related to lactation services.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Associate’s degree in Nursing, Diploma RN, or Master’s degree in Nursing
- Valid Registered Nursing License
- Minimum of one (1) year of Registered Nursing experience; OR Must be accepted into the UAMS New Graduate RN Residency Program
