Job Summary

Oversee and coordinate lactating patient needs by providing up-to-date lactation assistance and applying age-specific knowledge. Deliver anticipatory guidance to promote best breastfeeding practices and minimize complications. Conduct quality assurance programs to monitor program caliber, maintain consult documentation, and evaluate lactation products for patient recommendations. Provide information on breastfeeding equipment and devices appropriate for mothers and infants. Adapt communication styles to specific patient populations while respecting privacy. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and the Compliance & Privacy Program. Requires current RN license, IBCLC certification, and 2 years in maternal-child health nursing.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • 2 years of experience in maternal-child health nursing
  • Current registered nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
  • International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present information clearly and professionally
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally
  • Must be able to exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently
  • Must be able to exert greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly
  • Must be able to move objects
  • Must be able to work in an area where patients enter
  • Must be able to work directly with patients
  • Must be able to work with specimens that could contain communicable diseases
  • Must be able to work within a healthcare setting
  • Must be able to handle exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue
  • Must be able to handle exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • 3 years of experience in lactation consulting
