Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (Hospital-Based) delivers nursing care to patients across age groups by applying the nursing process and standards. Responsibilities include systematic assessments from admission to discharge, coordinating care with the interdisciplinary team, administering medications per licensure, planning individualized age-specific care with patient and family input, monitoring safety and outcomes, providing patient and family teaching, mentoring staff and students, and participating in evidence-based practice to improve care quality. Requires collaboration with the care team, adherence to safety guidelines, and active roles in care planning, discharge preparation, and regulatory compliance. Education prerequisites include an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred) with license to practice in Kentucky; ongoing professional development and potential participation in a Nurse Residency program. Additional certifications (BLS; ACLS/PALS) may be required depending on unit needs.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (preferred)
- Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) accreditation by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) accreditation by the American Heart Association (AHA) (may be required for specific clinical areas)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) accreditation by the American Heart Association (AHA) (may be required for specific clinical areas)
- Two years of hospital patient care experience (preferred)
- Nurse Residency program participation for new RN graduates (required)
- BSN program start within 1 year of hire and completion within 3 years (required)
