Job Summary

Lead patient care in the Med Unit A night shift using the nursing process to assess, teach, and manage diverse patient needs. Delegate tasks, direct ancillary team members, and ensure accountability for quality outcomes while adapting communication styles to specific patient populations. Manage nursing resources effectively, evaluate unit data to promote change, and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local laws and accreditation standards. Handle physical demands including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally and exposure to blood, body fluids, and hazardous medications. This 12-week assignment supports Ochsner LSU Health System's mission to provide care to over 140,000 patients across North Louisiana.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • 1 year of experience as a registered nurse
  • Current registered nurse (RN) license in state of practice
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgement
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform heavy work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly
  • Ability to work in an environment with exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue
  • Ability to work in an area where patients enter
  • Ability to work directly with patients
  • Ability to work with specimens that could contain communicable diseases
  • Ability to remain knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements
  • Ability to ensure compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards
  • Ability to report any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct
  • Ability to ensure patient/employee safety
  • Ability to ensure patient privacy
  • Ability to comply with the employer's Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct
  • Residence in an area other than Colorado, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington, Washington D.C., Shreveport, La., or Monroe, La.
