Job Summary
Manage a critical care assignment performing head-to-toe assessments, monitoring hemodynamic status continuously, and titrating vasoactive drips, sedation, and analgesia. Interpret cardiac rhythms and invasive monitoring data while caring for mechanically ventilated patients, managing airways, central lines, and continuous renal replacement therapy. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, respond to codes, and document assessments accurately in the electronic health record. Contribute to unit safety through infection prevention bundles, early mobility, and delirium screening while maintaining strict intake and output tracking. This 90-day contract engagement in Des Moines, Iowa, supports a collaborative team caring for medically complex, hemodynamically unstable patients.
Required Qualifications
- An active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license valid in Iowa
- Multistate compact licenses that permit Iowa practice
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification
- Prior intensive care experience in an adult ICU setting
- Demonstrated competency in ventilator management
- Demonstrated competency in vasoactive drip titration
- Demonstrated competency in invasive hemodynamic monitoring
- Confident cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Excellent clinical judgment
- The ability to prioritize rapidly among competing demands
- Composure during emergent situations
- Ability to work full onsite shifts
- Ability to document proficiently in an electronic health record
- Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and nursing colleagues
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the engagement
Desired Qualifications
- CCRN certification
- Experience in a medical, surgical, cardiovascular, or mixed ICU at a larger facility
- Exposure to continuous renal replacement therapy
- Exposure to therapeutic hypothermia
- Exposure to mechanical circulatory support
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Prior contract or travel nursing experience
- Charge nurse experience
- Preceptor experience
- Rapid response team experience
- Familiarity with Epic or a comparable electronic health record
- Willingness to work night shift or rotating schedules
- Flexibility to float to step-down or progressive care when census requires
- Experience in a teaching hospital environment
