Job Summary
Provide hospital-wide clinical and administrative leadership during assigned shifts, serving as the primary nursing resource for evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Monitor patient acuity, staffing levels, and clinical needs while coordinating patient flow, admissions, transfers, and bed management. Respond to emergencies, critical incidents, and urgent staffing needs, conducting safety rounds to support quality and accreditation initiatives. Facilitate communication across nursing, physicians, therapy, and admissions departments, addressing patient and family concerns to ensure timely resolution. Coach and mentor nursing staff in clinical decision-making while promoting adherence to evidence-based practices and hospital policies.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program
- Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing leadership or supervisory experience
- At least 1–2 years of pediatric nursing experience
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS certification
- PALS certification
- De-escalation training completed within 30 days of hire
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Experience caring for patients with complex medical and/or behavioral health diagnoses
- Demonstrated ability to lead nursing operations in a fast-paced, complex clinical environment
- Experience within an acute care environment
- Excellent clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills
- Strong pediatric and acute-care nursing knowledge
- Experience with patient flow, bed management, staffing, and resource allocation
- Confidence responding to emergencies and changes in patient condition
- Effective staff coaching, conflict resolution, and supervisory skills
- Knowledge of behavioral health management, therapeutic communication, and de-escalation techniques
- Ability to work effectively with medically and behaviorally complex patients
- Strong communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams
- Knowledge of patient safety, infection prevention, regulatory, and accreditation standards
- Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical technology
