RN Health Care Facility Surveyor

Job Summary

Conduct on-site surveys of Medicare-Medicaid certified health care facilities to determine compliance with Federal regulations. Perform off-site preparation, tour facilities, observe care, review records, and interview staff and families to assess if treatment aligns with requirements. Evaluate system aspects ranging from quality of care to consumer rights and physical plant. Communicate non-compliance issues with key personnel and determine acceptable plans of correction. Lead follow-up visits to monitor implementation of corrective actions. Assist with facility and bureau training and participate in work groups as needed. This role involves 100% remote work with up to 75% travel nationally, supporting re-certification, comparative, and complaint investigation surveys across long-term care, hospitals, and hospice facilities.

Required Qualifications

  • CMS's Long-Term Care Basic Training
  • SMQT certification
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Successfully completed CMS's Long-Term Care Basic Training and passed the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT)
  • At least two (2) years of recent experience working as a surveyor accrediting or certifying facilities that serve the residents of long-term care facilities
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Independent decision-making skills to direct and effectively manage the survey process
  • Ability to set priorities independently and collectively in performing survey tasks
  • Ability to openly discuss conflicts/controversy, and to seek assistance when appropriate to make decisions and resolve conflicts
  • Travel up to 75% of the time on a regular basis
