Job Summary

Conduct on-site surveys of Medicare-Medicaid certified health care facilities to determine compliance with Federal regulations, including tours, observations, record reviews, and interviews. Evaluate facility systems regarding quality of care, consumer rights, and physical plant, then communicate non-compliance issues to key personnel and determine acceptable plans of correction. Perform follow-up visits to monitor implementation of corrective actions and assist with facility and bureau training. This role involves serving as a team member or leader for re-certification, comparative, and complaint investigation surveys across long-term care, surgical centers, and hospitals. Requires 75% travel, full-time Monday through Friday schedule, and CMS Long-Term Care Basic Training certification.

Required Qualifications

  • CMS's Long-Term Care Basic Training
  • SMQT certification
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Successfully completed CMS's Long-Term Care Basic Training and passed the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT)
  • At least two (2) years of recent experience working as a surveyor accrediting or certifying facilities that serve the residents of long-term care facilities
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Independent decision-making skills to direct and effectively manage the survey process
  • Ability to set priorities independently and collectively in performing survey tasks
  • Ability to openly discuss conflicts/controversy, and to seek assistance when appropriate to make decisions and resolve conflicts
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time on a regular basis
